Welcome!  You have landed at the home of Hot and Cold, Maine’s first and only home improvement radio and TV programs.

Updated: March 28th, 2014

*NEW* We've been working on a gravity fed pellet burner for some time now, and have uploaded a short video of it in action! Here's a real-time video of the fire starting process!

Here are two great photos of Dr. Dick Hill that we just had to share with you, seen here on a motorcycle, and here with Clara Swan and Governor Paul LePage.

Herb Crosby from the University of Maine at Orono has been compiling degree day data for about 20 years. He also was kind enough to put together comparative fuel costs for our area. Here is what he has to share with us.

"Am updating lectures for my thermal science class and have 2 slides you may enjoy. The first shows degree days for Bangor for the past 19 years, tabulated on an annual basis from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. Despite a colder 2013 and much scatter, there is still a slight warming trend of 20 degree days per year overall.

The second slide shows annual heating cost for a very efficient small house using 10 different fuels with current prices in Bangor. The electric price includes a discount for electric heat and heat pumps. The natural gas price includes an annual connection charge of $171 which is significant for this house. The clear winners appear to be wood heat and efficient heat pumps. Oil and Propane are currently about the same price as electric heat. "

You asked, we listened! Hot and Cold is FINALLY on YouTube!
